Who We Are

Our History

and Our Future

Grace Christian School started in the fall of 1979 as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter Lee Hodges, a former pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Columbus, Georgia. By August 1979, the new Educational Building was finished, and the first year began with 65 students in grades 1 through 9. For more than 45 years, Grace Christian School has provided affordable, quality Christian education to the greater Columbus area inluding Harris County, Muscogee County, and Ft. Benning, GA, as well as Phenix City, Smiths Station, and Ft. Mitchell, AL.  We pray that God will continue to bless this ministry and that we continue to reach more for His kingdom.

Our Philosophy of Education

Grace Christian School believes that all truth originates with God and that a biblical worldview provides the only true foundation for education. As a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, the school is committed to integrating the truth of Scripture into every academic discipline and every aspect of student life. Education is viewed not merely as the acquisition of knowledge, but as the development of wisdom, character, and a lifelong commitment to honoring Christ.

Grace Christian School embraces a traditional philosophy of education in which teachers provide purposeful instruction within an orderly, disciplined classroom environment. Foundational skills are developed through proven methods such as phonics, memorization, repetition, practice, and critical thinking, preparing students for lifelong learning and faithful Christian service. High academic standards are maintained while emphasizing biblical morality, personal responsibility, respect for authority, and servant leadership.

The school recognizes that parents bear the primary responsibility for the education and spiritual training of their children. Therefore, Grace Christian School seeks to partner with the home and the local church in fulfilling the biblical mandate to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6). Through this partnership, the school endeavors to cultivate students who love God, pursue truth, think biblically, and live faithfully in every area of life.

Our Mission, Purpose, and Objectives

The mission of Grace Christian School is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by partnering with Christian families to provide a distinctively Christian, traditional education that equips students to become the next generation of Christian leaders.

As a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, Grace Christian School provides a caring, compassionate, and Christ-centered environment where biblical truth is intentionally integrated into every aspect of the educational experience. Scripture is woven throughout the curriculum, and every subject is taught from a biblical worldview. Our dedicated Christian faculty and staff seek to model Christlike character while investing in the academic, spiritual, and personal growth of each student. Through small class sizes, purposeful instruction, and individualized attention, students are encouraged to pursue excellence while developing a lifelong love for learning and a heart for serving God.

Every aspect of the school's program is designed to cultivate spiritual maturity, academic excellence, Christian character, and responsible citizenship. In fulfilling its mission, Grace Christian School seeks to produce graduates who demonstrate the following outcomes

  • Spiritual Development - Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of the Scriptures, understand the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith, develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and apply biblical truth to their daily decisions and conduct.

  • Academic Development - Students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities necessary to communicate effectively, solve problems wisely, and pursue higher education or vocational opportunities with excellence from a biblical worldview.

  • Character Development - Students will exhibit Christlike character through integrity, honesty, self-discipline, humility, responsibility, perseverance, and respect for God, authority, and others.

  • Social Responsibility - Students will demonstrate courtesy, compassion, servant leadership, responsible citizenship, and a commitment to serving others in their homes, churches, communities, and future vocations.

Our Curriculum

A curriculum that a school chooses to use will include student textbooks, teacher editions, lesson plans, visual and digital aids, workbooks, various other materials, and a particular worldview. Because of the importance of the curriculum, GCS takes great care in the selection of curricula and has chosen to use the Abeka curriculum and Bob Jones University curriculum. Your student will find this curriculum challenging with a Biblical emphasis from the beginning of the year to the end.
